Virtual Open Gardens 2020

Due to the pandemic, Talaton was unable to have its regular annual open gardens this year but we didn't let that stop us! And instead arranged our very first Talaton Virtual Un-Open Gardens 2020. Competitors sent in photos of their gardens which you can view below. Thank you to everyone who participated and sent in photos of their beautiful garden. Pictures are in order of receipt.

A Bit of History

Gnome with a frog and some bees

Here is a picture showing a bit of history. During an Open Garden Weekend, when visitors walk round, so as to brighten up a small person’s afternoon and stop them pinching the cuttings, they are challenged to find a hidden object in every garden relevant to gardening or topical to that year.

It was started about twelve years ago and each year was different and although there was no prize for finding it (although one or two loving owners did reward the children with sweets) many a bored spouse would join in.

First we hid a Butterfly, a Snake, then a tiny grey Squirrel, and in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Year we hung coloured diamond shaped Mobiles. David Glanville kindly made diamond shaped nesting boxes, in our 20th, and the first year that RHS Chelsea allowed them in, we had Gnomes. In our 25th anniversary Pam Weston made us Silver Bells!
Maybe next year it should be a Coron......... Maybe not, let's have a good luck fairy .
