Talaton Community Shop is ideally situated in the centre of the village, meeting the needs of both residents and visitors. A typical village shop you may say. Well, not exactly… Our shop is owned by the members, staffed by volunteers and managed by committee.

We have a wonderful selection of produce from local suppliers including meat, bread, milk and deli products in addition to the usual groceries & provisions, fruit & veg (see our dedicated fridge and wonderful outdoor display in the veg shed), household goods, stationery & confectionery.

Customers can also take advantage of the HOME GROWN or HOME MADE produce that members sell through the shop, such as: plants, cakes & scones, marmalade, jam, honey, chutney, greeting cards and a fantastic range of art and craftwork .

We also have additional services such as the post office, off licence, newspapers & magazines, postage stamps, hot drinks, box office for local events and food bank donation box.

Services

Open an account for easy payment - This is a safe and easy way for others to shop on your behalf. You open an account with a cash or card payment. We open a paper note book in your name. Every time you, or someone shops on your behalf, the amount is deducted and signed for in your personal book. We've had this system in place for more than 25 years so we know that it is safe and it will make life easier for people to send others to shop on their behalf.

Newspapers and Magazines - Can be ordered for collection from the shop. Just call into the shop to complete an order form, or contact us using the details above. Temporary orders from visitors can be catered for so please get in touch with us. There is a small monthly on cost fee of £1 for up to 3 publications per week and £2 per month for more than 3 publications per week.

Our Service to Holidaymakers

Coming to stay in Talaton? Why not save space in the car by ordering all, or some of your shopping with us in advance? No minimum order or "starter pack" - just tell us what you want and we can get it. Collection from the shop or free delivery with a minimum order of £20. A few days notice is all we require, however, please give a minimum of 2 weeks notice for large orders that may include goods we don't normally stock.

All orders will be acknowledged and collection / delivery arrangements confirmed.

Reducing plastic

We are committed to reducing the amount of single use plastic in the shop. Please get in touch with suggestions of how the shop can help to reduce the use of plastic or increase recycling.

Carrier Bags - We have switched from plastic to sturdy paper carrier bags
Fruit and Veg - We have removed unnecessary plastic wherever possible and more produce is sold loose, by the kilo. The only bags we provide for loose produce are paper bags
Recycling point - We accept egg boxes for re-use in the shop and are a collection point for pens that will be recycled. Please return the net sack from our kindling and logs and they will be reused
