A bit of History

Following talks given by EDDC officers, the Parish Council, in late 2002, decided that the production of a Village Plan would benefit the whole community, including the Parish Council itself. The Plan would be built up using local opinion and represent the ideals on an array of subjects such as planning, areas of small industry, environment, transport etc. Ideally then, if the views of the community were needed, for example, on the call for better bus services to and from Talaton, the Plan would be a reference document. Obviously, this is a real help to the Parish Council when it campaigns on a particular subject because it has immediate recall to the overall wishes of the community.

So, after numerous meetings, a very detailed questionnaire to each household and some help from outside experts, all the gathered data was compiled and put into booklet form ready for distribution in 2003. Copies were made available to each household and to each of the significant local bodies. The document was really well received by the local authorities and the Plan remains an invaluable reference item. The Parish Council monitors the action plans of each component part of the plan and will do its very best to keep the plan as a living document – not a dust gatherer in a drawer!

December 2009
True to its word to keep the Plan alive, the Parish Council convened a team of volunteers representing all groups within the village to oversee the production of a thoroughly updated Village Plan.  A new questionnaire was devised and circulated to each household and the information derived from that was the basis of the new plan. A huge thank you is due to all the people who made it meaningful by supplying the information requested.

A huge thank you too to the team who supported Pat Rice -  Nemo Young. Gerry Hawkins, Emily Thornhill, Arnie James, Charlie Hutchings, Peppi Shaw, Andrea Down, Victoria Robinson, Dawn Newman and Chris Harwood .

A final big thank you to Neil Oakley who was extremely helpful and generous in his provision of help and resources in the print finishing , binding etc. of the plan.
So, we have a new Village Plan that should last us and be relevant for a considerable number of years.
