This ancient rural village, with a population of about 600 and mentioned in the Doomsday Book, nestles close to the tiny river Tale from which it derives its name, town-on-the-Tale. It lies about seven miles from the market town of Honiton, four miles from Ottery St Mary, twelve miles from the Cathedral City of Exeter and eight miles from Cullompton, another ancient market town. It remains largely a working country village surrounded by actively worked farmland but it is fortunate that over a number of years the population has slowly increased and with it many changes have been embraced allowing Talaton to offer both the old and new ideals.
